That is the question.
We spent Memorial day weekend with my wife's family in San Diego, and had nary a chance to watch TV, except for a snippet of the Lawrence Welk show on the local PBS channel.
My father-in-law is quite fond of Lawrence Welk, and just about anything else from the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He still listens to LPs (I saw "John Denver's Greatest Hits" next to the record player with perhaps the fruitiest picture of John Denver I have ever seen--he was wearing a cowboy hat that was entirely too small for his noggin), which are actually starting to make a come-back, so I've heard.
But I digress.
It was kind of nice to not have a TV blaring in the background so much. I think we sometimes get in the habit of having the TV on all the time, even when we're not really interested in what's on.
Sometimes, there really are other more constructive things we could be doing.
But oh, I so love movies and the occasional Star Trek: The Next Generation episode on DVD. It's difficult to just toss the TV out of the picture altogether.
Maybe, just maybe, we can trim back the time we spend watching the thing and do more constructive things.
Like listen to LPs.
